Waikato Times wordsmith and local legend Michael Easther has written his last lines for this newspaper. Denise Irvine reports.
Dr Michael Easther, member of End-of-Life Choice, has died
POSTED 25 February 2018
Dr Michael Easther died last week. He was very well known in acting circles and produced hundreds of cryptic crosswords for the Waikato Times over many years. In addition he wrote poetry and was well known for writing small poems called ‘Flim Flam’ for the same paper. Several weeks before he died, he sent one example, published some years previously, of this to our local secretary. Here it is for your enjoyment.
‘Euthanasia? If it’s my
Life were talking about, then I
Must surely have some right to say
Whether it’s time to end my day.
It seems that every Christian’s one
Who disapproves of it being done,
But surely everybody knows
One dies and Heaven’s where one goes,
So one’s with God - you can’t ask more,
As it’s what we’re all hoping for.
If life’s unbearable, then I
Should have the Choice - to live or die’.
